Global Realities art exhibits, films and classes.
(stipend available)

Create short programs to introduce important global issues and provide forums to attempt to understand the complexity of the issue.

Step 1: Organize accessible and enjoyable ways to introduce the subject to the community. Possibilities: Art exhibits and documentary films. An example is the travelling galleries on Columbia and Namibia created by Katie Knight, which can be viewed at her website, http://www.katieknight.net/. (see pictures, below).

Step 2: Create a two meeting course on the subject, following the basic Huzanity School format. This involves the following elements. Readings, which would take about an hour, provide views on opposing sides of the issue. Class activities, which encourage students to reflect on challenging questions, and relate them to their own lives. Facilitation, which encourages students to take responsibility for the subject matter, without the authority of a teacher. And Action, which provides tools and resources for positive community action, based on what has been learned

Possible subjects. There are any number of important 'global realities' classes waiting to be created! Here's an example:
Government: What is the U.S. responsibilty for the spread or the loss of democracy worldwide? Which countries have we helped? Which democracies have we overthrown?
