What I like about the mass media
Democracy: Good & Bad

What I like about the mass media (Tuesday, January 24)

The ability to quickly disseminate messages to a broad audience. The ability to easily receive messages from a broad selection of senders.

I like that sources of media are everywhere, and that so much available media allows us to choose where we get our news and information. We are not limited to one point of view, or one voice.

Many options & sources of media are easily accessible (especially with the advent of the Internet).

Modern media is an amazing tool to indirectly know about many facets of the world/life, which would otherwise be almost impossible to know about (e.g., other countries, cultures, societies, value systems). Modern media, especially the Internet, can also function as a tool to empower and bring together the 'average citizens' of the world.

Creative use of Internet, bringing vibrant images, audio and the ability to share messages/ art/ music quickly and in many places.

Smoething I like about the modern media is its ability to use technology and human creativity to allow humans to connect, share and learn in various ways. Perhaps these ends are not met now, but... the potential is there for greatness.... We just need to utilize these things -- all the mediums that comprise media -- in responsible, fair and intelligent ways.

Well, a part of me does like being entertained (the devil on my right shoulder). I don't have to think, can 'seemingly relax, and dive in and indulge. However, that is short-term gratification, and my consciousness knows better (angel on my left shoulder) (when I choose to be active & aware). I also like the availability of more choices via the Internet (as opposed to TV/ print), mainly because it crosses international borders.

I adore communications media which are varied, broad, fast, comprehensive, diverse, inclusive -- in other words potentially the most technical print & picture media that we have going .. dependent on substance, and on individual work impinging on group work, and on positive social evolution.

I like how media can enable you to embark on studies of things...that media can spark your interest in things that you, in turn, take the helm over... using media personally (and on a wider scale) to undertake 'serious' inquiry (perhaps based on unobjective material). Media enables you to embark on/ undertake seriuos inquiry of objective views synthesized with your subjectivity.

It is glittering, fast-paced, sensuous, technically intruiging, it satisfies desires I don't want to admit I have, it soothes me when I am desperate.
