Contemporary Movements

There is a "convergence of values and visions among citizen groups the world over. We are witness to the emergence of a new form of global leadership from below, grounded in a love of life and a capacity for deep compassion. It points to a powerful, soulful awakening that is our primary source of hope for the future." David Korten, Saying Yes

Is global peace possible? If so, we'll have to stop seeking the single true movement and start focusing on the good that exists in each (we must also be capable of distinguishing between the creative and the destructive). Here are some contemporary movements with a particular creative power. Let's join hands with any and every person or group that has a living sense of our shared humanity. This is the goal of Humanity Movement.

Our introductory meetings include films, brief readings, background information, exercises and practise of relevant techniques, and resources about how to learn more or get more involved.
Do you have experience with any of these movements, and would you like to share your knowledge? Contact us!

Local, Living Economies
The Local, Living Economy movement is a positive, tangible way to begin to take back control of our economy from the forces of globalization. These local associations connect entrepreneurs and consumers who want to encourage businesses that are human-scale, locally-rooted, and equitably owned.

The New Humanism
A non-ideological, non-partisan movement that is uniting millions of people in Latin America and Africa. It's practice is based on non-violence, internal transformation, guided group experiences, and social action. "Contradictory or unifying actions accumulate within you. If you repeat your acts of internal unity, nothing can detain you."

Non-Violent Communication
"Nonviolent Communicationsm (NVC) is a process that strengthens our ability to inspire compassion from others and respond compassionately to others and ourselves. NVC guides us to reframe how we express ourselves and how we hear others by focusing our consciousness on what we are observing, feeling, needing, and requesting. It is a language of empathy and honesty, and is sometimes described as “the language of the heart.”

New Paradigm Institute
The old paradigm is in crisis. The ‘Neo-cons’ are reactionary. The Democrats are conservative. A new Northern industrial alliance. This historical moment presents a unique opportunity to create a ‘new paradigm.’

The Earth Charter
The Earth Charter seeks to inspire a sense of global interdependence and shared responsibility for humanity and nature. It addresses, in a non-political way, these four areas: I. Respect and care for the community of life; II. Ecological integrity; III. Social and economic justice; and IV. Democracy, nonviolence, and peace. (www.earthcharter.org)
